One principle covered by Janine Benyus is a no waste system in Biomimicry. Building water waste needs to be filtered naturally and then reused for other purposes. My idea/concept is to reuse building water waste by filtering it and then reusing it for cleaning, restroom, and cooling purposes.
Another principle covered is storing energy. The concept described by Benyus in Biomimicry is one of leafs storing solar energy and using this energy efficiently. I imagine buildings to use this same type of energy storing and efficiency. They can use and store large amounts of energy and use appliances and building parts that "sip" energy or use very little of it at a time. Once this energy is emitted, it could be recaptured and used again in some way.
Every industrial system needs to take a lesson from nature in the way it functions. Nature is a great example of how to thrive on this planet without destroying it in the process. I believe that the idea of Biomimicry will be the beginning of the next Industrial Revolution.
Hey Jamie. How do you propose to filter the water? From my understanding, if using a biomimetic approach, this is the part that would have to mimic a natural process and not use a traditional water filtration system.
ReplyDelete"Once this energy is emitted" contradicts the Benyus article when she says that energy once used is used and cant energy anything else because it has turned to heat. That is why its important to find a continual stream of energy, like the sun.
Hi Brittney, Janine Benyus described a great way to filter the water through the walls in her video that Dr. Armstrong recommended we look at. It is similar to the way that trees draw water up from the ground through their roots.
DeleteAnd I would like to somehow capture the heat that is emitted from the energy that is released to heat the building. That is what I meant by "Once this energy is emitted".
Hi Jamie! I believe that finding a way for companies to reuse the water being used in their buildings would be a great step towards becoming more sustainable! My question would be the same as Brittney's, how would you propose to filter the water? Or are you just giving the idea of the appliances we use not spitting out as much water at once as they do now?
ReplyDeleteHi Audrey, as I explained to Brittney, Janine Benyus described a great way to filter the water through the walls in her video that Dr. Armstrong recommended we look at. It is similar to the way that trees draw water up from the ground through their roots. I also think it would be a good idea for companies to use appliances that use as little energy and water as possible.
DeleteHey there!
DeleteI really like your ideas about bio mimicry. I think implementing these ideas would be a step in the right direction. These ideas are technologically advanced so I have a hard time envisioning them but that is sort of the point of the "vision". Do you have any ideas on how companies can make technology to perform these functions?
